The Second Vatican Counsel’s document Ad Gentes, the Decree on Mission, clearly states the mission of the Church in the world. “The Church has been divinely sent to all nations that she might be ‘the universal sacrament of salvation.’ The very nature of the Church is missionary and she is summoned by Christ (Mt. 5:13-14) with urgency to bring the message of Christ to the four corners of the world.
The Diocese of Charleston, which itself is not long out of being a missionary status Diocese, carries out this responsibility through the Office of the Propagation of the Faith. Although our office is small, with only myself and our coordinator Helena Moniz, we take this work seriously. We have done work in India, Nepal, Ecuador, Fiji Islands, and Africa. With God’s help and direction, we intend to continue to follow the Gospel command to preach the good news to all lands and all peoples.
